SOME of the world's most popular recording artists have lost YouTube views after the video sharing website cracked down on hackers.

The website-wide clean out of fake views and the artificial inflation of likes has seen Lady Gaga lose 156 million views on her official YouTube account.

After discovering a fraudulent view count-building technique called "black hat", YouTube has wiped millions of likes and views from the likes of Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber, who collectively lost more than 1 billion views.

Psy's record-breaking music video Gangnam Style also suffered, although the Korean rapper has little reason to worry as the clip still has a staggering 1.2 billion views.
