A TEENAGER has been charged after allegedly stabbing his brother at their Coffs Harbour home overnight.

The 15-year-old was refused bail after appearing in the Coffs Harbour Children's Court today.

Police have been told the youth and his 12-year-old brother were in the kitchen of the family home when an altercation broke out around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

It is alleged he picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed his brother on the left side of his body.

The 12-year-old was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for treatment and police said his injury is not believed to be life threatening.

Police attended and arrested the 15-year-old.

He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.
