Wu does enough to make platform final at worlds

DIVING: Australian star Melissa Wu's has snuck into the women's platform final at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Hungary.

The three-time Olympian's campaign in Budapest began strongly, qualifying second in a 37-person field for the semi-final.

Two of her dives were scored the equal-highest as she progressed with countrywoman Taneka Kovchenko, who qualified eighth.

But the pair, who had teamed up two days earlier to finish fifth in the women's 10m synchro, tripped up in the semi-final.

Wu, a silver medallist from Beijing 2008 Olympics, dropped to 11th for the 12-diver final with Kovchenko finishing last (of 18).

Wednesday's platform final will be Wu's final chance of a medal as she completes her tournament.

Wu also competed in the mixed 10m team event final on Tuesday, finishing 12th in the final with Australia's Matthew Carter.

She finished seventh in the mixed 10m synchro final with Domonic Bedggood on Saturday.
