Writers’ Festival following script for success
THE first Yamba Writers' Festival is off to a flying start with literary lovers snapping up tickets released this week.
Organisers hope to see hundreds of writers from around the Clarence Valley and beyond embrace the opportunity to network and put forth new ideas at the event later this year.
Event co-ordinator Catherine Porter said the organising committee had received plenty of interest from writers keen to take part in the two-day festival, with more enquiries than places to fill.
"There a lot more wanting to be part of it but you can only fit so many people in a few days," Mrs Porter said.
From the many enquiries to host workshops, eight writers have been selected.
"All authors have been wonderful to work with and so enthusiastic, what more could you ask for?" she said.
Featured writers are Robert Drewe, Peter Watt, Alice Greenup, Kristina Olsen, David Hallett, Cathie Whitmore, Melissa Beit, Dr Moya Costello and Zacharey Jane.
Each represents a different genre and life experience and all have published works in Australia as well as internationally.
It is hoped the event will assist both local and visiting writers to find direction and make connections, especially those local writers in their formative years of writing.
"Visiting writers are all devoted to giving help, advice and direction to new and upcoming writers so as they might move forward in the local and national literary scene," Mrs Porter said.
Younger members of the community are encouraged to participate.
