Words worn by women

THE CONCEPT of matching poets reading their works with reconstructed costumes (worn by the poets) is a fascinating one.

The creative mixing of text and textile is exactly what is happening at the Gollan Hotel in Lismore this Friday, September 21, with a one-off pefrormance of Wear the Wild Words.

Local costumier Denise N Rall has designed garments for the poets inspired by such diverse influences as Melbourne Cup Day, Alice in Wonderland and even a Burmese women's prison.

And the poetry will be equally diverse.

Poets Virginia Barratt, Janie Conway-Herron, Moya Costello, and Stefanie Petrik (all connected in some way to the creative writing program at SCU) will be stimulating in a visual way as well as poetic.

It all happens in the funky old ballroom upstairs at the Gollan.

Doors open at 6pm, the similes start at 6.30pm and there's a bar.

A gold coin will get you in.
