Women take relay silver

AUSTRALIA claimed the silver medal in the women's 4x200 metres freestyle final at the London Aquatics Centre.

Kylie Palmer had Australia holding a 0.54 lead when she changed over to anchor Alicia Coutts, but American Allison Schmitt surged to the lead and touched the wall in an Olympic record of 7:42.92.

Schmitt won the individual 200m freestyle on day four.

Australia, the defending champion, posted 7:44.41 with France third in 7:47.49.

The silver was Coutts's fourth medal of the Games, after she won gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay, silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze in the 100m butterfly.
