Woman stabbed on her way to midnight mass

A WOMAN has been stabbed as she walked to church for midnight mass on Christmas Eve, leading police to ask for the public's help in understanding more about the horrifying incident.

The 44-year-old was attacked in the harbour-side suburb of Elizabeth Bay.

New South Wales Ambulance Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was taken to St Vincent's Hospital.

Authorities reported on Christmas morning the woman was now in a stable condition.

Police arrested a man after witnesses called police and followed a suspect to an unit block at Potts Point.

The 38-year-old is now being investigated.
