Woman arrested after 40km chase from Byron past Ballina

A WOMAN has been arrested at Pimlico following a police pursuit that started at Byron Bay this morning.

Richmond Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Bill McKenna said the car the woman was driving came to the attention of police at Byron Bay.

"The original pursuit that occurred in Byron Bay was terminated twice by police because the woman travelled on the incorrect side of the road," he said.

Insp McKenna said police lost sight of the car the woman was driving but later received information the car was at Pimlico.

Officers arrested the woman, who was with the car, just before 9am.

The woman was taken to Ballina hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

She will then be taken to Ballina police station for questioning.
