Woakes holds recall hopes

SYDNEY Thunder and England all-rounder Chris Woakes is not thinking too far ahead, despite his chance of earning a recall to the national Test team.

Following Graeme Swann's retirement, Woakes could be called up for the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney, starting next Friday.

The Thunder will take on Adelaide in round two of the BBL at ANZ Stadium tonight, with the Sydneysiders keen to bounce back from their loss to the Sixers last week, their 14th consecutive defeat.

"We probably should have got a win. We were 20-25 runs short with the bat, and then we didn't quite execute with the ball," Woakes, who made his Test debut against Australia in August, said.

"I'm obviously hoping to get back in (to the England team). Hopefully if I can do well here - you never know."

Strikers opening batsman and fellow Englishman Alex Hales belted 49 off 19 balls against Hobart in Sunday's washed-out match.
