ON THE sheer weight of numbers, leading owner Lloyd Williams has a 25% chance of winning his fifth Melbourne Cup today.
The Victorian businessman will be represented by last year's winner, Green Moon, Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner, Sydney Cup winner Mourayan, Metropolitan Handicap winner Seville, 2011 English St Leger winner Masked Marvel and Coongy Handicap winner Sea Moon.
Williams (pictured) yesterday suggested English trainer Ed Dunlop, who has 2011 runner-up Red Cadeaux engaged, should probably withdraw his comments that the leviathan owner could "boss" the race with his six starters.
He also said he hoped Fawkner could become the first horse since Kiwi mare Ethereal in 2001 to claim the Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double.
"I would love this horse to win," he told Racing and Sports Radio. "I'd love an Australian-bred horse that was here in Melbourne to beat all the internationals, even though I've got five internationals (myself).
"I would really, dearly love it for Australia because I'm terribly Australian and I love the Melbourne Cup."
