SIMON Whitlock says he will definitely return to Queensland next year if News Corp's International Pro Darts Series gets a second season.
Whitlock won the second leg of the four tournament series on the Gold Coast Thursday night after last week losing in the semi in Brisbane to eventual winner Phil Taylor.
This week at the Gold Coast Turf Club, Whitlock showed some of his best form, defeating Australian No.2 Kyle Anderson 7-4 in the final.
The Wizard said he was disappointed not to be on the second half of the month-long tour which heads to Townsville and Mackay next week but said he would love to come back to put on another show for his Aussie fans next year.
"If they do the same event in January, then 100 per cent I will be here," Whitlock, who now heads off to the UK for the World Masters and Premier League, said.
"I would love to do it again.
"It's great for Aussie darts and the more exposure they get and playing experience they get in big events like this, it's just brilliant for everyone."
Whitlock was full of praise for up and coming Australian players such as Gold Coast's Robbie King who made the semi-final of the first event in Brisbane last week before being knocked out in the last eight by fellow qualifier Lucas Cameron on Thursday night.
Tasmania's Brad Thorp and Brisbane's Steve Macarthur also made the last eight on the Gold Coast and Whitlock said the future was bright for Aussie darts.
"They are all great players," he said.
"Robbie King is only 24 and he is a standout.
"It's going to do him and the others the world of good getting this exposure and playing against top players on the big stage.
"I am actually going to miss not playing the next two events but I have to go back to the UK and get ready for the Masters and Premier League."
Whitlock said he hoped the Gold Coast success would spur him on for the rest of 2018.
"What a great start to the year," he said.
"To win in my own country in front of the home fans, friends and family was great.
"It was just great for darts and great for me."
The International Pro Darts Showdown Series is in Townsville on January 24-25 and Mackay in January 27-28.
