Too much sport barely enough
A survey being conducted by 92.9 River-FM (previously known as 2NCR) showed that people wanted a sports show with a focus on local sport.
They contacted Lismore’s Stan Bendall, who had previously done a sports segment on 2LM with Neil Marks and his own show on Richmond Valley Radio and asked him if he wanted to take the reins.
“Of course I said yes, and here I am,” Stan said.
Stan has been on-air for about four weeks on Saturday morning from 9-10am and also Monday afternoons from 3-4pm, when he does a wrap up of results from the weekend.
Stan has also managed to bring in a number of regular guests to talk about their particular sports including David Krauss, who is captain/coach of Marist Brothers talking about local rugby league, Steve Mackney from Football Far North Coast talking soccer, John Foreshore from Northern Rivers Bowls talking bowls, Michael Timbrell from the Lismore Turf Club talking racing, Stan Gilchrist talking cricket, Arthur Maloney talking boxing, Judy Mason talking dressage and pony clubs, and Stan looking at the world of golf. He also has Kevin Junee, an ex-international rugby league player who also played for Eastern Suburbs, discussing topics such as “what it takes to make a champion”.
He said he is still looking for other specialist correspondents to come on board.
If you think you know what you’re talking about, can take the ball and run with it and have a good face for radio, contact Stan on 0429 313 384.
