NBL: MELBOURNE recorded a bitter sweet 78-70 win yesterday against Townsville at Hisense Arena in the final regular season game of the 2012/13 season.

The result meant the Tigers finished the season level with Sydney with a 12-16 win-loss record.

The teams were 2-2 in their head-to-head battle during the season, but the Kings took fourth place by virtue of a two-point margin in the total points scored against each other in those four games.

In other final round games, the Wildcats ended the 16-game winning streak of the NZ Breakers with a 73-58 victory in Perth on Friday night, Kevin Lisch starring with a game high 24 points for the home side.

Also on Friday, Sydney secured its place in the top four with an 81-74 win against Townsville, and Cairns blew its chance to sneak into the play-offs after losing 66-64 to Melbourne at home.

On Saturday night, Wollongong tied up third spot with a 74-64 win against bottom side Adelaide.Finals action kicks off on Thursday night with the Breakers (1st) opening their best-of-three series against the Kings (4th) in Auckland, and Perth (2nd) hosting Wollongong (3rd) in their series.
