Wanderers denied in fiery Sydney derby

WESTERN Sydney was held to a 1-1 draw by Sydney FC at Parramatta Stadium as the A-League new boys inched closer to a maiden Premier's Plate.

In Saturday's earlier A-League clash, Perth Glory shocked the Melbourne Victory in the dying seconds to win 3-2 at AAMI Park and climb into finals contention.

In a match where both sides were eventually reduced to 10 men, Sydney FC's marquee man Alessandro Del Piero pounced on a mistake in defence to silence the home fans on 33 minutes.

Del Piero intercepted a terrible pass from Nikolai Topor-Stanley in defence to slot home the opener.

But the match turned on its head in the second half when Sky Blues captain Brett Emerton was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Shannon Cole.
