Taylor Walker makes slow progress with knee injury

AFL: Adelaide Crows coach Brenton Sanderson has hosed down speculation of an early-season return for star forward Taylor Walker, saying the talented goalkicker may not be back until round 15.

Earlier this week, betting agencies had listed Walker at $11 to win the Coleman Medal, based on suggestions he could return from a knee construction as early as round one.

But Sanderson, speaking to afl.com.au, said that would not happen.

"It could be anywhere between rounds five and 15 and that's serious," Sanderson said. "He'll play when he's ready."

The coach said the injury, which Walker sustained in round five last season, was not a typical ACL injury.

"This was more like a car crash," Sanderson said.

The Crows have recruited forwards James Podsiadly (Geelong) and Eddie Betts (Carlton) to fill the void in Walker's absence.
