Victoria Cross display unveiled

CORPORAL Daniel Keighran has unveiled a display of his Victoria Cross in the Australian War Memorial's Hall of Valour.

The former Queenslander, who was born in Nambour and grew up in regional parts of the state, described the unveiling of his Victoria Cross as a "very proud moment".

Cpl Keighran,29, received the Victoria Cross - the highest award for bravery in time of war - following his heroic actions at Derapet in Afghanistan on August 24, 2010.

His Victoria Cross is on loan to the Australian War Memorial and is displayed with his accompanying medal group in the exhibition honouring all the Australians who have received the award.

The 29-year-old was the third recipient of the Victoria Cross for Australia, which, in 1991, replaced the British or Imperial Victoria Cross.

His Victoria Cross is the 69th to be on display at the memorial, including all three Victoria Crosses for Australia as well as three British medals.
