IT IS a long way from Toowoomba to Brisbane ... especially if you are walking in red heels!

But that is exactly what Robert Carroll has spent the past week doing.

Mr Carroll, along with supporters from Lockyer Valley-based advocacy group small rights BIG CHANGES arrived in Brisbane on Friday after completing the 130km walk to raise awareness of all types of violence.

The group presented a petition to Lockyer Valley MP Ian Rickuss at Parliament House calling for a full-time victims' rights commissioner to be appointed in Queensland.

Mr Rickuss will present the petition to State Parliament next week.

small rights BIG CHANGES spokeswoman Julie Hand said it was time for victims of violence to be heard.

Ms Hand said the cause was very close to her heart following the 2006 murder of her daughter, Jody Galante, in New South Wales.

She said her granddaughter, who witnessed her father commit the execution-style murder, had also taken part in the walk.

"Our ultimate outcome would be to see victims afforded more rights than offenders," she said.

"Offenders have more rights and access to services these days than their victims.

"If a full-time commissioner was appointed they could advocate on behalf of victims and their families.

"It is wrong and it is time for change."
