Very full slippery visitor hangs around at Eumundi home

HEADING to Eumundi and having a feed before relaxing the day away is a staple weekend activity for any Coast resident.

But this slippery visitor had bitten off a little more than it could chew.

Sophie Eaton snapped this photo of a carpet python digesting a pigeon.

She said she spotted it hanging from a neighbour's roof on Memorial Drive.

"We thought it was just shedding its skin until we had a closer look and saw it was a pigeon," she said.

Sunshine Coast snake catcher Stuart McKenzie said the behaviour was perfectly normal for a snake that had just caught a bird.

"Carpet pythons are an opportunistic feeder. So if an opportunity presents itself the snake will try and take it, whether thats in a tree or in a roof or on the ground.

"Its pretty awesome seeing them hang upside down swallowing their prey item like this."

He said the snake season is slowing down, but residents could expect to see some snakes still on the move on warmer days or seeking warmth from heaters or hot water systems.

"They are less active in the winter months, but they could still be seen around the place, especially when we are still getting temperatures in the high 20s."

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
