PUKEKOHE Park Raceway, just south of Auckland, will undergo a $6.6 million upgrade to allow the V8 Supercar Championship to return in April.
Work will start at the facility next month, and will include improved safety barriers and some resurfacing.
Three additional turns will be built into the track before the hairpin on the back straight, with the addition of overhead pedestrian bridges and improved viewing areas. The work is necessary to improve the circuit's FIA safety level.
Major changes to the pit area will also be made.
V8 Supercars, the Auckland City Council, and the New Zealand Government will provide the funds for the improvements.
The upgrade will allow the event to be held in Pukekohe for the next five years.
The V8 Supercars Auckland 400 will run from April 12-14 next year.
