U3A NR hosts open day

The annual open day for U3A Northern Rivers will be held on Monday, January 30, at the Lismore Workers Club from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The open day is a chance for many of the 600 members to renew their membership, catch up with old friends and check out the details of the almost 50 courses on offer to senior community members this term. It's also a chance for new members to join.

Courses are run by volunteer tutors sharing their own life expertise and experience and there are also the Friday forums and guest speakers on Tuesdays.

Some of their popular courses include a computer group, embroidery, language classes, photography and a recorder group.

Some of the new courses this term include tai chi, a six-week course on iPad2, men's aquatic fitness (there are already two successful groups operating for women) and many others.

Enrolment forms are available on the day. For more information phone U3A NR president Pat MacLaren-Smith on 6622 7408.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
