Two NZ students missing at sea

RESCUE teams, including the police dive squad and the Air Force, have resumed their search for three people missing in rough seas off New Plymouth's Back Beach.

Two Year 13 male students fell into the water yesterday afternoon and their instructor dived in to try to save them.

Incident Controller Inspector Frank Grant said four inflatable boats will search the area this morning.

"Two rescue vessels are out on the water searching. More than 20 Police personnel and Taranaki Land SAR volunteers have resumed a shoreline search and the Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter is also assisting in an aerial search."

Inspector Grant said a Royal New Zealand Air Force Iroquois is heading to New Plymouth and members of the Police National Dive Squad are expected later this morning.
