Tweed firies joined battle against Lennox Head blaze

OVER 40 volunteer fire fighters from Tweed brigades were sent to help with the bushfire just north of Lennox Head.

Rural Fire Service far north coast superintendent Matt Inwood said it's believed the fire was started on by a lighting strike around 5.30pm on Sunday.

Mr Inwood said some crews from the Tweed region are still helping to black out what's left of the fire.

"The fire is now contained as of last night, as a result of the great efforts of everyone involved," he said.

Mr Inwood said up to 80 crews have been working on the fire since Sunday afternoon.

"It's definitely been a team effort," Mr Inwood said.
