Truckie loses licence over risky Bruce Hwy incident

A TRUCK driver who was spotted driving erratically and swerving towards overtaking cars on the Bruce Hwy at Bells Creek has lost his licence for six months and been fined $600.

Truck business owner-operator Paul Bernard Townsley, 40, had methamphetamine in his system after police picked him up on February 15.

The Currimundi man had slurred speech and fell asleep repeatedly when he was with the police.

He told officers he was extremely tired and had taken the drug the previous weekend.

He pleaded guilty to drug driving.

Solicitor Ben Rynderman said Townsley acknowledged his behaviour had been "extremely irresponsible", but said that he was under constant pressure to meet demands.

It was his second drug-driving offence within five years.
