UPDATE 3.30PMPolice have yet to release the identity of a 19-year-old Noosaville woman killed in a head-on crash with a truck on the Sunshine Coast.

The teenager died when her car and truck collided on Walter Hay Dr at Doonan about 3.30pm yesterday.

Peak hour traffic was turned around as the busy road that links Noosa with Maroochydore was closed for almost four hours while an oil spill was contained and cleaned up.

The sedan and truck, as well as debris from both vehicles that was scattered for hundreds of metres, also had to be removed before the road was reopened.

The teen, who was believed to have been driving south in a red Hyundai sedan, appeared to cross the centre line into the path of the truck, according to one eyewitness who declined to be named.

Her vehicle was extensively damaged and she died at the scene.

The truck driver was taken to Nambour Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was released later on Wednesday night.

The forensic crash unit is investigating.

THURSDAY 8AM:  Investigations will continue today into how a 19-year-old woman died in when the car she was driving collided with a truck on the Sunshine Coast.

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Noosaville.

Police said initial information suggests that a Hyundai sedan was travelling south on Walter Hay Drive shortly before 3.30pm when it collided with a truck.

The sedan was extensively damaged.

The driver and sole occupant, the 19-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The truck's driver was taken to Nambour Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Walter Hay Drive was closed for several hours.

Half an hour earlier a 20-year-old man died when his car veered into the southbound lane of Waterford-Tamborine Rd, Mt Tamborine, and smashed into a utility.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the ute suffered a minor head injury and was taken to Logan Hospital.

Waterford-Tamborine Rd reopened around 7.50pm.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating both crashes.

WEDNESDAY 5PM: A woman has died and a truck driver seriously injured in a head-on crash on the Sunshine Coast this afternoon.

The woman died at the scene.

Walter Hay Dr will remain closed for several hours while the forensic crash unit investigates.

4PM: A motorist has been killed after the vehicle they were driving collided with a truck on the Sunshine Coast.

Emergency services have closed Walter Hay Dr with detours in place. The road is not expected to be cleared for hours.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area due to heavy traffic congestion.

The truck driver is reportedly been assessed at the scene by paramedics but he is not thought to be injured.

3.30PM: Emergency services are on their way to a serious traffic crash involving a truck and car on the Sunshine Coast.

The crash occurred on Walter Hay Dr at Doonan about 3.35pm.

The road is currently completely blocked according to emergency services.

There are reports that motorists are trapped in the wreckage.
