Tradie Palace: Next gen Toyota HiLux cabin revealed
IT'S the cabin soon to be enjoyed by thousands of Australians across building sites, rural properties, highways and weekend holiday spots everywhere.
Toyota's next-generation HiLux - on sale this October - was revealed in May with doors firmly locked, but we now get to see inside the 2016 version of Australia's favourite ute for the first time.
The Japanese giant speaks of an SUV-like cabin with a comfier driving position, increased front head and shoulder room, an expanded range for seat-height adjustment, and tilt-and-telescopic steering.
Increasingly we want to know about the infotainment involved - even in the hard-working commercial segment - and if the photos are to be believed, the new HiLux certainly looks one of the plushest to be found in the segment,
A tablet-style touchscreen dominates the dash centre, while a multi-function steering wheel controls the audio and connected smartphone, and includes voice recognition.
As expected, air conditioning, cruise control and reverse camera (pick-ups) come as standard, but full spec depends on which of the 31 variants buyers can choose from. There are two new turbo-diesel engines, two petrol engines, three transmissions, 4x2 and 4x4 drive, three body styles and three equipment levels.
WorkMate HiLux models receive a 6.1-inch touchscreen with CD player, Bluetooth and auxiliary/USB input. Mid-range SR gains extra speakers, while double cab SR5 variants feature a seven-inch touchscreen and Toyota Link connected mobility which provides access to Pandora.
The latter model also bring digital audio and sat nav, keyless smart entry and start, chrome door handles, premium steering wheel, upgraded instrument cluster with cool blue illumination and an alarm.
And to ensure families can enjoy the HiLux when the working week is through, all double cabs feature two top tether anchors and Isofix attachment points for the rear seat.
Expect full specifications and prices to be revealed closer to the HiLux's October launch in Australia.
