2014 Toyota Corolla sedan aims to maintain number one title

REIGNING title holder for Australia's best-selling car, the Toyota Corolla, has just been released wearing sedan attire.

The all-new hatch has been on sale since 2012, but the sedan derivative has now joined the fray and it starts $250 cheaper than the outing model.

According to Toyota, it has also added extra equipment valued at $2000 despite the price drop.

The new Toyota Corolla Ascent sedan starts from $20,740, followed by the SX at $22,990 and the range-topping ZR with an automatic transmission which retails $30,990.  Those who want an automatic with the Ascent and SX derivatives will have to fork out an additional $2250, while premium pain is $450.

Base model Ascent sedans come with cruise control, a reversing camera and sonars, multi-information display in the speedometer while sitting on 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps and has halogen headlamps.

Every Corolla is fitted with a 15.5cm LCD touch-screen display with Bluetooth connectivity, CD stereo with USB and iPod inputs as well as an auxiliary jack.

Step up to the SX and it gains 16-inch alloy wheels including the spare, front foglamps, Optitron instruments, keyless smart entry and start, front sonars and interior chrome detailing.

ZR sedan is $1000 less than the previous Ultima and features automatic air-conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, auto-levelling LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, satellite navigation, leather-accented seats with eight-way power operation for the driver's seat, paddle shifters and acoustic windscreen.

Under the bonnet its Toyota's 1.8-litre petrol engine which generates 103kW of power and 173Nm of torque. It is partnered to a six-speed manual or the new automatic continuously variable transmission.

Average fuel economy for the automatic is 6.6 litres/100km, while the manual achieves seven.

Internal space has improved, with an increase of 100mm between the front and rear wheels.

Capped price servicing is available for $130 per visit to the dealership.
