Tourism push for more Halal products

TWO of the world's biggest names in halal tourism will launch new products aimed at accelerating one of the fastest growing sectors in the travel industry at the premier show for travel in the Middle East.

Muslim friendly travel companies CrescentRating and HalalTrip will exhibit new products at this year's Arabian Travel Market in Dubai next month. The four day event aims to facilitate the growth of the Halal travel market.

Fazal Bahardeen, CEO of CrescentRating and HalalTrip, said the mysterious new products will be "innovations that enhance the experience of the Muslim travellers" - in line with the theme of this year's show which is set to shine the spotlight on the growing importance of technology in the industry.

"This year the ATM will be focusing on family travel and advances in technology and we will launch products which will showcase the integration of the latest technology," he said.

"Our focus as a business is to increase the interaction on in the digital space as we are seeing Muslim travellers across the world, especially in the Middle East, increasing their use of technology through smartphones and tablets."

The company recently launched The "MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2015" which it claims is the most comprehensive research that has been released in the halal tourism sector.

Malaysia took the top spot on the list, for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) destinations while Singapore came first for the non-OIC destinations.

The study also revealed that in 2014, this segment was worth $145 billion with 108 million Muslim travellers representing 10% of the entire tourism economy. This is forecast to grow to 150 million visitors by 2020 and 11% of the market segment with a market value projected to grow to $200 billion.

The 2015 edition of the ATM will take place at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre on May 4-7.
