THEY say the early bird catches the worm, but for Yamba photographer Vicki James, a capture of two early birds has netted her a much bigger prize.
Her photo Misty Morning of two pelicans on a foggy Yamba morning has won her a gold award in the International Loupe Awards photography competition.
The gold award recognises a score more than 90 points, and was enough to also win her the Science and Nature category of the competition.
"I couldn't believe it, it's such a great mark," Vicki said.
"And then to win the category as well was just fantastic."
The award comes in the first international competition Vicki has entered, and the secret to her success is in its design.
"I just love the serenity and simplicity of the pic," Vicki said.
"It shows that a picture of an ordinary bird on an ordinary day can still be something really beautiful."
