Tomic shows Pat why he should stay on Davis Cup team

IT WAS only the beginning of this year when Bernard Tomic was not on speaking terms with Australia's Davis Cup coach Pat Rafter.

Yesterday, he was the hero, securing victory for his country in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania second-round tie against Uzbekistan in Namangan.

Tomic defeated Uzbekistan's top player Denis Istomin 4-6 6-2 6-2 6-3 for the Aussies to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the tie.

The win means Australia will contest September's World Group playoffs and attempt to qualify for the competition's top group for the first time since 2007.
