Together Union fighting LNP in court over job cutting

THE public services union is again fighting the LNP Government in the Brisbane Supreme Court as it challenges the way the State has slashed jobs.

Together Union's case on Wednesday was based on an order given by the government which told different departments how best to cut staff.

From the union's point of view, this was a breach of the Public Service Act which it believed ensured these departments had the power to decide how money would be spent.By issuing the order, legal representatives Slater & Gordon said, this was beyond the government's power.

The Crown sought to refute the claim, telling the court it believed the union was wrong in how it was applying the legislation.Justice Philip D McMurdo reserved his decision.

This marks the third time Together Union has launched legal challenges to question how the Queensland Government has cut jobs.
