Toddler fighting for life after 'bashed' by stepfather

A QUEENSLAND toddler is fighting for life after being allegedly bashed by his 30-year-old stepfather on Tuesday.

Detectives from the Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit have arrested and charged a 30-year-old Cairns man with grievous bodily harm following investigations into injuries sustained by a two-year-old boy.

Police were called to the Cairns Base Hospital yesterday afternoon after they boy was admitted with critical head injuries.

The man is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
