Tinpan Orange to sing Blue Cheese
Katie Noonan has had to withdraw from the Leonard Cohen tribute show, ‘Famous Blue Cheese’ because of a conflicting gig at the Sydney Opera House. She will now be replaced by Emily Lubitz from Tinpan Orange, who won over north coast crowds at last year’s Mullum Music Festival.
Emily will join Monsieur Camembert and other guest vocalists Abby Dobson and Ngaiire to re-interpret and re-imagine the works of one of the world’s most highly regarded songwriters.
Monsieur Camembert bandleader and vocalist Yaron Hallis said, “There’s such strength in the material, on two levels. The first one which people always speak of is what Cohen is known for, the brilliance of his words and how brilliantly his lyrics work as poetry, but because of that, people rarely speak about the brilliance of his melody and his incredible melodic sense; he just writes one unbelievable, catchy melody after another. Each song is so strong that you can take on songs that, while simple on the surface, have this incredibly strong melody. You can move from style to style and it’s still conducive; it’s almost like raw clay. It’s great fun to play with!”
Famous Blue Cheese comes to the Lismore City Hall next Thursday, May 27 at 8pm.
Tickets are $30/$24$14 from www.norpa.org.au
