THIEVES have stolen nine quarter horses from a western Queensland property.

Police are appealing for public assistance to find the horses, which were last sighted at the property, 12km west of Mitchell, about two weeks ago.

Extensive searches of the property failed to locate the four geldings and five mares, aged between 18 months and seven years.

There was one buckskin mare, three bay mares, one with a distinctive buckskin splash down her left shoulder and one 18-month-old chestnut mare.

There was one liver chestnut gelding and three chestnut geldings - two 18 month olds and a thoroughbred-cross with the brand TLC on his left shoulder.

Police investigations are continuing.
