MORTAL MUSINGS: Miriam Salomon, Room for Charlotte

LISMORE Regional Gallery has a busy month ahead, commencing today (Thursday, October 25).

Food for Thought, a dinner with guest curator Brian Johnston from the Australian War Memorial, includes a viewing of work by Shaun Gladwell, created during his term in Afghanistan as an official war artist. The $50 ticket includes a two course dinner at Palate @ the Gallery. RSVP ASAP on 6622 2209.

Two exhibitions kick off this Saturday, October 27, both dealing with approaches to mortality.

Miriam Salomon's Room for Charlotte Salomon comes via a 2011 Graduate Award, where as a graduating vis-arts student from SCU she presents a multimedia installation concerning her namesake, murdered by Nazis at Auschwitz, whose own compelling arts practise has directly influenced Miriam's.

Kate Maurice's Momento Mori uses sculptural forms and reclaimed materials to examine how gender roles and relationships reflect our expressions of mortality. Both exhibitions run till December 9.
