Test spots up for grabs in final warm-up clash

SHANE Watson and his heir apparent Mitchell Marsh will go head-to-head for the all-rounder's position in Australia's team for the first Ashes Test in the final warm-up match against English county side Essex.

The four-day game will start tomorrow night, and coach Darren Lehmann said Watson (pictured) would need to bowl well to keep his place for next week's first Test in Cardiff.

"I thought he bowled really well in the West Indies, for a short amount of time so we know that's important for us especially in England," Lehmann said. "He shapes the ball nicely so he's going to have to bowl well."

Steve Smith, who scored an unbeaten century in the match against Kent - which Australian won by 255 runs - has been rested, with Adam Voges given the chance to cement his place for Cardiff.

Team: Michael Clarke (capt), Chris Rogers, David Warner, Adam Voges, Shane Watson, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Nevill, Mitchell Starc, Ryan Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon
