Tempting entry-level price of $27,990 for new Subaru XV SUV

WE were impressed with the updated Subaru XV small SUV on a pre-launch test in Japan, and further good news comes with the popular all-wheel drive's pricing.

The manual gearbox offering has been dropped so now all XVs will use a CVT auto transmission, so the outgoing model's sub-$27,000 (before on-roads) entry level price is no more.

The range will now start at $27,990 before on-roads for the 2018 XV 2.0i with CVT gearbox - a saving of $1250 over the outgoing model.

The mid-range 2.0i-L version is up $100 to $30,340; the 2.0i Premium is down $600 to $32,140 and the range topping 2.0i-S is down $300 to $35,240.

Also helping on the financial front is a much-improved capped price service and service interval plan for the new model. The new XV now only needs serviced every year or 12,500km, whereas before it was every six months/10,000km.

The new XV features X-Mode all-wheel-drive, excellent 220mm ground clearance, hill descent control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and impressive crash-preventing EyeSight Driver Assist on all but the entry level grade.

Subaru Australia Managing Director, Colin Christie, said: "With almost 50,000 XVs sold since it launched in 2012, we have high hopes for this second generation, particularly given the addition of rough road kit like X-Mode.

"Extending EyeSight to the majority of Australian XVs will likely mean more than 70% of new Subarus sold locally this year will include the driver assist system - greater uptake of such technology than any other mainstream brand.

"We've had a fantastic response to the new generation Impreza extended service schedule, which was enabled by the efficiencies of the Subaru Global Platform, and we're now delighted to extend this to new XV too, making it an even more compelling package.

"Just like new Impreza, new XV is a game changer - design, styling, safety, road dynamics, infotainment, quality, performance and innovation are stand-outs.

"Our opportunity with new XV is to attract new audiences, in particular, younger people (under 35s), especially females.
