Take a break the natural way

IT’S pretty easy to be inspired by the great outdoors in Queensland.

We’ve got the Great Barrier Reef, some of the oldest rainforests in the world, national parks aplenty and amazing wildlife that make getting close to nature some of the easiest and most inspiring fun you can have.

Whether you favour natural encounters of the animal kind or would prefer to explore our magnificent Queensland environment, we are spoilt for choice.

How about the magical experience of hand feeding the wild dolphins who visit Tangalooma on Moreton Island every night?

Or maybe you’d prefer to lace up your walking boots and hike some of the hundreds of walking tracks on offer.

Choose from easy strolls you can do with the whole family right up to the challenge of Queensland’s series of Great Walks – the newest has just opened up in the Whitsundays.

Queensland is also home to Mon Repos, near Bundaberg – the largest loggerhead turtle rookery in the South Pacific.

Every year from November to April, you can join a guided tour nightly to watch the miracle of turtle laying and hatching.

Further up the coast at Mackay, Broken River at Eungella National Park is one of the best spots in Australia to spot a platypus in the wild.

Our native animal sanctuaries and theme parks also offer plenty of ways to get close to wildlife, ranging from cuddling a koala, feeding wallabies and kangaroos to watching polar bears, tigers and seals at play.

Get your adrenalin pumping by swimming with dolphins or diving with sharks, or experience the spectacle of millions of glow worms during a night visit to the Natural Arch Cave in Lamington National Park.

Perhaps the ultimate natural encounters in Queensland can be had among the Great Barrier Reef.

The only natural structure visible from the moon, the reef stretches 2000km along our coastline and is the perfect setting for scuba diving, sailing, snorkelling and beach combing adventures that will leave you with unforgettable memories of brilliant coloured corals and marine life.

Dive with minke whales, take a heli-ride and land on a sand cay in the middle of the reef, or snorkel among gentle rays and turtles – whatever your adventure you will be keen for more natural adventures, Queensland-style.
