A BRILLIANT hat-trick from Newcastle young gun Adam Taggart continued his team's resurgence as the Jets defeated a hapless Melbourne Heart outfit 3-1 at Hunter Stadium yesterday.
It was Newcastle's third consecutive win and first hat-trick of wins in a year.
For the Heart, it was its 17th straight away loss, equalling the New Zealand Knights' unwanted record and the pressure on coach John Aloisi continues to build.
Taggart's finishing on all three of his goals was breathtaking but he had the Heart defence to thank on each of those occasions.
The 20-year-old scored his first just before the half-time break, rifling home his shot after a poor pass from Heart defender Iain Ramsay.
Another ugly Heart turnover, this time courtesy of a lazy switch of play from Aziz Behich, gave Taggart his second.
And the Australian representative got his third goal, and his sixth in four games, after a miss-directed Patrick Kisnorbo header.
The Heart had a small flutter of hope when Andrea Migliorini's free-kick took a deflection and went past Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti in the 58th minute but Taggart quickly quashed any thoughts of a recovery.
