THE mother of a NSW man, wanted for the murder of a factory worker, has called on her son to hand himself into police.

Lance Hargreaves, 62, was found dead in the yard of a factory in Sydney's west last week.

Homicide detectives issued a warrant for the arrest of 37-year-old Gordon Cramp on Monday.

In joining police in their appeal, Mr Cramp's mother Carol said in a statement "Your family is here for you - please contact police so we know you are safe".

The suspect is described as caucasian, about 165cm tall with a thin build and short, dark hair.

Detective Superintendent Michael Willing warned that Mr Cramp could be armed and dangerous.

He called on anyone who recognised Mr Cramp not to approach him but call 000.
