Surfer signs up for kids' wishes

MARK Visser doesn't know what was more painful.

Missing out on nine weeks of good surf while nursing a torn ligament in his left knee and a cracked tailbone, or the terrifying plunge that caused his injuries.

The 29-year-old is finally back on the board after more than two months recovering from his injuries.

He's returned to the Sunshine Coast after spending a couple of days in the water filming scenes for the upcoming adventure documentary Nine Lives.

"We're hoping to have it all finished in the next couple of months. Then it's time for a break before I move on to the next project," he said.

"There's a lot I can't talk about.

"They like to let it come out when the show's on."

Meanwhile, Mr Visser this week came on board as an ambassador for Make-A-Wish Australia.

He will now help fulfil the cherished wishes of seriously ill children and young people.

"For me Make-A-Wish is the perfect fit. My life has been full of dreams and wishes so I feel that what I do is similar to a child - I make a wish and try my best to make it come true," he said.

"Unfortunately some kids never get the opportunity to fulfil their dreams, so to give them a hand to make theirs come true is just awesome."

When speaking about what he could offer to Make-A-Wish, Mr Visser said, "Obviously there's going to be surfing experiences, rides on jet skis, skydives and a heap of other adventure sport-related activities, but the best thing about being an ambassador is the ability to give something back to these kids and families who are going through a rough time."
