Surat Gas Project gets federal approval

A GAS field with 6500 coal seam gas wells proposed for the Surat Basin in south-west Queensland has won Federal approval, with Environment Minister Greg Hunt backing plans from Arrow Energy..

The thousands of wells will be linked to a second Arrow pipeline near Gladstone, stemming from the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, which will then funnel the gas to a major refinery.

The Shell-owned Arrow estimates this Surat Gas Project will require 2700 workers when it hits peak construction, with 600 needed once operations begin.

Arrow has previously said the operation would pump $1.4 billion per year into the surrounding region's economy.
