AUSTRALIAN Casey Stoner has blogged some great news for his fans.

The 26-year-old two-time world champion, who is retiring at the end of the season, is on track for a quicker return to action than first thought following his ankle surgery.

Stoner has missed past three races after injuring his leg during a crash in qualifying for the Indianapolis MotoGP and had hoped to be back on his Honda for Phillip Island on October 28 - now he's intending to be back racing two week's earlier.

He has announced he will return at the Japan MotoGP in Motegi on October 14.

"I have spent a quiet week in Australia," Stoner wrote on his blog.

"I have been resting, doing a little physio and following doctors' orders in order to recover.

"The good news is that I think I will be able to ride at Motegi (the Japanese circuit) and rejoin my team next week. I can't wait!"

Stoner is third in the overall standings, but with a maximum 100 points remaining in the next four races he cannot catch championship leader Jorge Lorenzo.
