Bowls: Southies cover themselves in glory at state finals

SOUTH Lismore No 1s covered themselves with glory at the state pennant finals at Dapto, making it through to the final before going down to the power-packed Taren Point 70-54.

The score wasn't an indication of the closeness of the result - the Southies won two rinks to Taren Point's one. Ben McCall's team won 21-18, Jamie Eichhorn's won 23-20 but Glen Pitts went down 32-9 to a team skipped by international Wayne Turley.

South Lismore made it to the final after all seemed to be lost in the sectional play. In this, they'd beaten Port Macquarie by one shot, lost to St Johns Park by seven.
