State-of-the-art units to open at hospital

ST VINCENT'S Private Hospital's new endoscopy and short stay units will officially opened a few minutes ago.

The $800,000, state-of-the-art units will be blessed by Bishop of Lismore Geoffrey Jarrett in a ceremony at the site at 11.30am.

The new endoscopy unit provides patients with monitors and scopes that are faster and less chemically toxic than previous models.

These advanced techniques will result in less pain for patients and new monitors will provide higher definition pictures for easier detection of diseases at earlier stages.

The new short stay unit, also opening today, will provide a recovery area where relatives can spend time with patients after their procedures.

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
