Stabbing shatters family

THE Gladstone community has been left reeling as friends and family of Brandon Matthews grasp the fact that he will not be returning home.

The 18-year-old former Tannum State High School student was stabbed to death over the weekend in Ipswich in an incident which also left a 24-year-old Ipswich man dead.

An 18-year-old man and a 22-year-old man fronted Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday each charged with two counts of murder and one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Tributes for the young man have flowed on Facebook as grief-stricken residents farewelled Mr Matthews. His mother Paula Matthews posted on Facebook yesterday speaking of her heartbreak.

"Thank-you everyone for the kind words and the love you are showing my family, we are devastated we have lost our precious boy, I myself am absolutely shattered and numb and can't comprehend what is happening, when I get to see my baby tomorrow I think it will sink in ...I want my baby back this killing me, my tears just keep flowing," Ms Matthews wrote.

Mr Matthews' own Facebook page was flowing with messages of condolence and friends expressing their shock at the loss of a life so young.

Mr Matthews' brother Owen wrote "I'm just glad we could say 'love ya' to each other after every call, cause if I could have one thing in the world right now it'd be your voice saying 'love ya bro' just one more time".

Brandon's Facebook status listed him as engaged to Clara Phung Tiêu Nguyen.
