South Pacific gets standing ovation on opening night

I LOVE musicals, but somehow I had never got around to seeing South Pacific.

That was until last night, when it opened at QPAC's Lyric Theatre in Brisbane.

It was an incredible show, and no surprise the cast was given a standing ovation.

The Tony Award-winning musical starred Lisa McCune, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Christine Anu, Gyton Grantley and Daniel Koek.

The set, costumes, makeup, hair, vocals, acting and dancing were all top-notch and helped bring the beautiful and heart-warming love story to life.

For me, there were two stand-out performances: Bloody Mary, played by Christine Anu and Luther Billis who was played by Gyton Grantley.

Both are new additions to the cast, replacing Melbourne cast members Kate Ceberano and Eddie Perfect.

Although I didn't know the songs before the show, they are very catchy and this morning I have caught myself singing them.

The main song which is stuck in my head is I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, which in the show ends with Lisa McCune actually washing her hair on stage - something I have never seen happen in a musical.

She then comes back on stage a few moments later with the perfect '40s hair-do.

The Lincoln Center Theatre Production of Rogers & Hammerstein's South Pacific has a short five-week run in Brisbane.

Tickets are selling fast, so don't miss your chance to see it.

To purchase tickets phone 136 246 or visit the QPAC website.
