Jacques Kallis on his way to a century in Durban

SOUTH African all-rounder Jacques Kallis was unbeaten on 78 and closing in on scoring a century in his final test ahead of day four of the second and final test against India in Durban overnight.

The 38-year-old, who is retiring after the match, was given a guard of honour by the Indian players as he went out to bat, struck 10 boundaries in what was his 87th half-century in Tests, to guide his side to 5-299 in reply to India's first innings total of 334.

The first Test ended in a draw with South Africa eight runs short of a world-record run chase.
