Angry inmate causes problems with police by raising a stink

A POLICEMAN'S lot is not always a happy one, especially when the work gets messy.

Even worse, sometimes, is the lot of the civilian cleaners called on to clean things up.

In one unpleasant recent matter, it seems cleaners certainly bore the worst of it when they were called on to deal with some very unpleasant after effects.

In this especially smelly case, the prisoner, 30, was literally "full of it" when arrested on a Return to Prison warrant, at The Palms on December 27, police said.

Gympie station officer in charge, Senior Sargeant Graeme Reeves, said the prisoner responded to being placed in his watch house cell by defecating in the cell.

"He then proceeded to rub the excrement upon his own body and the walls of the cell," Snr Sgt Reeves said.

But that was not the end of it, apparently.

"Upon being transported to Maryborough Prison, the same man then defecated in the rear pod of the police vehicle and proceeded to smear it (more excrement) all over the windows to prevent officers keeping him under observation".

Snr Sgt Reeves said the man had been charged with wilful damage and is due to appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on January 14.

"This is a good example of some of the stuff that police have to put up with," he said.
