Sixers aim for win over Lions to claim spot in semi-finals
THE Sydney Sixers can cement a spot in the Champions League semi-finals with a win against the Highveld Lions of Cape Town on Wednesday night.
The Sixers followed their opening win against the Chennai Super Kings by steamrolling an under-strength Yorkshire side at Newlands Oval last night, needing just nine overs to chase down the paltry target of 9-96 with eight wickets in hand.
The young pace bowling trio of Mitch Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood led the charge for the Sixers with the Yorkshire batsmen unable to get on top of their accuracy, efficiency and economy in attack.
Starc was named man-of-the-match for his 3-22, but Hazlewood really put the clamps on early, finishing with the miserly figures of 1-9 off his four overs.
The Lions should represent much stiffer opposition, having beaten the Mumbai Indians and Chennai in their two matches.
Opener Gulam Bodi was the star against Chennai, smashing 64 of 46 balls as the Lions chased down the Super Kings total of 6-158 with three balls to spare.
