Sims and Lui make Broncos-smashing comebacks

THE Cowboys had some extra reasons to celebrate their 28-24 win over the Broncos after their opening pre-season trial in Mt Isa.

The 2011 rookie of the year Tariq Sims played three stints in his first game back from a fractured leg.

And Robert Lui made a successful return at five-eighth after being stood down since round one last year, after being charged with assaulting his partner.

The Cowboys were down 20-6 at half-time, before North Queensland prop Ricky Thorby scored under the posts with less than five minutes remaining to seal the win.

The news wasn't so good for the Warriors, who lost forward Sione Lousi to a knee injury as his side fell 42-24 to the Titans at Pizzey Park in Burleigh Heads.

The 23-year-old needed assistance from the field in the 52nd minute after a hit-up went wrong, while his brother Sam was placed on report for a high tackle in the second half.

And the Rabbitohs overcame a 12-6 deficit to defeat the Papua New Guinea Residents 38-12.

Makeshift halves Justin Hunt and Luke Keary were impressive in the victory, in the absence of All Stars No. 7 Adam Reynolds.

New recruit Bryson Goodwin also stood out at centre for the injured Matt King.
